Identity Theft Legal Help in Hurst/Euless/Bedford | James Foley PLLC Fort Worth, TX

If you’ve noticed something out of place on your Experian, Equifax, or Transunion credit report, you might think that your identity has been stolen.

This can be alarming, but luckily it may not be the case. I’m James Foley, PLLC, and this is a quick guide I’ve put together so you can begin to determine what may be going on. Call me anytime, or once you’ve read below, and we can get to the bottom of this: 817-738-1633.

Consumers across D/FW, especially Fort Worth, Banbrook, Lake Worth, and Burleson have found that something is wrong with their credit, and their identities may have been stolen. Even worse, the credit agencies may not be rapidly responding to your communications, and time is of the essence.

If you haven’t re-examined your credit report recently, or don’t have a good knowledge of where to find your credit report, head over to www.annualcreditreport.com, input your info, and look for anything that may be out of place.

Identity Theft Assistance, Fort Worth TX | North Texas ID Theft Resources

Identity theft occurs when a bad actor gains access to your social security number or other information, and uses it to open an account under your credit. So when we look for ID theft in credit reporting errors, we usually see the following:

-Credit cards that have reached their limits quickly, spent on any number of transactions.
-Lawsuits for debt that the consumer never knew about.
-Repo’ing of assets that the consumer didn’t purchase in the first place.

Wreckless financial abuse is the best indicator that someone has stolen your identity. If that’s the case you must act quickly and decisively:

1. File an identity theft report with the Fort Worth PD at https://police.fortworthtexas.gov/OnlineServices/identity-theft-fraud-r…;
2. File an FTC affidavit, or call me and I can assist you in doing so (817-738-1633).
3. Freeze your credit. That way, any future use of your information will need to be doubly verified by you.
4. Reach out to me if you need additional help. My consultations are free and my goal is to get you on your feet soon again.

What if it doesn’t look like Identity Theft? Other reasons for credit report errors and how to fix them.

So think about all the signs of theft above, and the alternatives. Are accounts that you didn’t open still getting paid? Are amounts similar to what you’d expect but the numbers are wrong? Or, are you seeing accounts that were closed suddenly reopen?

If that’s what’s going on, you can take a deep breath: your identity is likely safe for the time being. There are solutions for the things causing these errors, and you may need my help getting the help you need, but it won’t impact your credit or make you consult law enforcement.

Even if you’re a Fort Worth, HEB, or Mansfield resident dealing with re-aged loans, incorrect public information, or merged accounts, it still may not be easy to have the information repaired. That’s a situation where I can step in and help your case, especially if you’ve been sued for a debt that’s not yours, and need help properly responding.

The state of Texas can assign blame to those who don’t respond to court summons, so make sure you’re in control!

Lake Worth/Fort Worth/Richland Hills Credit Defense, Credit Report Accuracy

Whether your identity has been stolen or not, the time to act is now! The statute of limitations can be as little as two years from the first issue appearing. If you check your credit yearly, your time to respond has already been halved.

I’ll initiate a credit accuracy dispute in your name for the price of postage, and will do so on a legal letterhead that will get the agency’s attention. So stop letting them delay if you’ve already tried to resolve things on your own, and get ready to finally have your identity or credit reporting issues resolved.
