Check your Credit Report not just your Credit Score

WHEN DID YOU LAST CHECK YOUR CREDIT SCORE?

GOOD. WHEN DID YOU LAST CHECK YOUR CREDIT REPORT?

Is that not the same as my credit score?

No sir/No ma’am!

Most consumers don’t realize these are two separate issues, but they are in many issues.

We hear so often about our credit score, but that score is calculated in relation to our credit reports. Checking your credit score is only a symptom, whereas keeping tabs on your credit report will help to keep your finances healthy.

HOW TO GET STARTED

Go to www.annualcreditreport.com to check your report, and input the requested data.

You’re able to perform this check every year, or three times a year if you separate checks from each reporting agency. Do whichever you’ll be able to keep track of, as fraud can appear on any one of the three, and not the others, in some cases.

FIND SOMETHING ERRONEOUS?

Call me Immediately!!! 817-738-1633!

The error you’ve found may have resulted in a lower credit score at some point in the recent past. You now have a chance to improve your credit score by fixing your credit report, not to mention possible money damages.

Who wouldn’t be interested in that?

There are many possible reasons to lose points on your credit score, but if for some reason you’ve maintained a consistent series of accounts, this shouldn’t happen. My name is James Foley PLLC, and I’m here to protect you from fraud and illegal activity by companies who try to steal from you.

The financial world currently doesn’t protect consumers very well. Until Washington D.C. can figure out a way to protect borrowers, we’re on our own to protect ourselves. Thanks to a fair judicial system, this is possible.

RUN, DON’T WALK

An erroneous 30-day bank card delinquency on your credit report could lead to a 100 point drop to your credit score. -ConsumersUnion

With only one month at their disposal, a fraudster can affect your future ability to buy a house, a car, or get a loan. This is not to mention an account that stays that way for months or years. Catch the issue before it gets worse.

Let’s find out what your credit report looks like before you try to make a large purchase. Do you really want to find the home of your dreams or a great deal on a car only to be derailed by inaccurate or stale information on your credit report?

MERGED FILES

One common error is what is known as a merged file. That is where otherwise correct information shows up in the wrong place. For instance someone with a similar name has defaulted on a bill or maybe just has a high balance on a credit card and it is incorrectly showing on your account. I once did a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy for a client, it showed up on his son’s credit report. They had same first and last name and same address but different middle names and obviously different dates of birth. That’s the perfect example of a merged file.

STALE DEBT

The code says that a debt may stay on your credit report for 7 and ½ years after the date of first delinquency leading to default. Anything older than that is a violation. Also be on the look out for reaged debt. Transferring an account from one debt buyer to another does not add life to the account. Also please don’t confuse this with state law. In Texas the statute of limitations for most debts is 4 years. Lawsuit must be brought within 4 years from the last missed payment.
