How to tell if a debt lawsuit is real or not | Identity Theft Legal Help East Texas
If a debt suit looks real, and you’ve been able to verify the summons, then you need to take action, and fast. But where do you start when you may be short on time?
You might believe going directly to a credit reporting agency (CRA), i.e. TransUnion, Experian, or Equifax, is your best place to start when you’re concerned about identity theft or mistaken debt lawsuits. That’s a valid consideration, but it’s usually not your best course of action when something like this happens. You need to protect yourself, and NOW.
I’ll commence your case for the price of postage, and on my legal letterhead, which will both force a CRA to act faster on your behalf than they normally might, and will give you some almost free peace of mind for the period to come. A CRA likely won’t volunteer when they’ve made a mistake, which is why you have to get tough, and work with someone like me, who knows their usual approach.
There’s some good news in most situations, though! Even if you’ve been sued for a debt that isn’t yours, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s identity theft that’s your problem. So many folks come to me thinking they’re victims of criminal activity, and leave our consultation with the reassurance their ID is likely safe after all.
