If you’ve noticed unexpected issues with your credit score, have you recently checked your credit report?
If not, you should go to www.annualcreditreport.com, download your results with a secure login, and read over the sections available.
Consumers across Weatherford, including Aledo, White Settlement, and Mineral Wells maintain good financial health by keeping an eye on their scores and reports. You should too.
Maybe you’ve already checked your report, and noticed something out of place. If so, take action. Your identity may or may not have been stolen, and we’re here to find out.
My name is James Foley, PLLC, and I’m Weatherford’s defender against identity thieves, computer bugs, and clerical mistakes. Whatever your credit issue may look like, I’ll make sure the reporting agencies give you the time of day, and that you won’t be legally reprimanded for financial mistakes that shouldn’t have been attributed to you in the first place.
Weatherford Credit Report/Identity Theft Check | How to Tell if my Identity is Stolen
If your identity has been stolen, it can lead to a number of challenges in terms of reclaiming your financial stability. I’ll make sure you’re ready to navigate this road, but first we’ll need to make sure that identity theft is your issue.
When you find an account on your credit report that puts up a red flag, it can be simple to tell whether or not you’ve had a breach. Identity thieves, knowing their time is limited, will allocate the stolen credit into a large purchase, or a large amount of purchases in a short time, which is why security systems monitor for such activity. However, not all security systems can catch such issues, which is where your account may have been exposed.
If you can still close the account in question, do so as soon as possible. If the account has already defaulted or led to lawsuit, you still have opportunity for relief. Call me and I’ll help you navigate this process, or stop by my downtown Fort Worth office, just a short trip down I-30 from Weatherford or Aledo.
Together, or individually, I would encourage you to file an identity theft claim with your local authorities, as well as what’s called an FTC affidavit. Then, freeze your credit with the major agencies, so that they’ll have to notify you and verify when a new line of credit opens. Finally, if you have been sued and don’t come to me first, make a confident reply to the suit and/or let them know that you had no knowledge of the account. You still may face a difficult road to clearing your name and credit, but if you stay silent, your guilt may be assumed.
Identity May Not Be Stolen | Signs That Your ID is SAFE | Weatherford, Aledo, Azle TX
In the same way that an identity thief would act recklessly with your account, consider that if accounts on your report appear to be handled with some degree of responsibility, they may not have been stolen outright.
So in this instance, we’re looking for accounts that you may recognize, accounts that may not have correct enumeration, or properly paid lines of credit that don’t apply to you. These may exist under similar names to yours, or they may have been brought back from a previous time or business that shouldn’t have normally reactivated them.
I should say outright, while you may need my help in these scenarios, or need to make the drive from Weatherford to Fort Worth to visit my office in person, this is good news. This means that you won’t have to worry that a bad actor has access to your social security number, or other personal information.
So, as you would with a case of identity theft, reach out to your credit reporting agency, whether it be Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion, and begin the process of having your information corrected. This is where you might find your agency is dragging their feet, or asking for evidence you can’t produce, which is when you should contact me at 817-738-1633, and we’ll go to work on them.
Additionally, make sure that you address any lawsuits or debt collectors to let them know you’re disputing their orders or summons, and call me at this stage too if you need help properly doing so.
Weatherford Legal Help for Identity Theft and More!
The amount of time to take action on a credit reporting issue can be as little as two years from the opening of an account, and if you only check your report yearly, this can leave you with even less time to take action. Don’t hesitate to call me, whether you’re local to Granbury, Springtown, Cool, or Millsap.
I’ll initiate a credit accuracy dispute in your name for the price of postage, and will do so on a legal letterhead that will get the agency’s attention. The end to your troubles begins today, with James Foley, PLLC.
